Jillian Shea Spaeder, an actress and singer born in Malvern, is dedicated to creating positive change in both the industry and the whole, writes Yitzi Weiner for Medium

Spaeder initially traveled to Los Angeles for a short-term stay while she pursued acting. After landing a role on Disney’s Walk the Prank, her move to California became permanent. She’s best known for her role in Disney+ film Godmothered.

Spaeder has used her platform to make a difference. She’s committed to bringing awareness to eating disorders, hoping to make positive change for those affected.

“My mission has become focused on eating disorder awareness. I believe it’s a topic that’s often overlooked and sometimes even glamorized online, without being discussed properly. There needs to be more education on this issue, especially for young people.” Spaeder said.

Spaeder has a personal connection to her cause, as she struggled with anorexia herself.

“Eating disorders don’t discriminate based on gender or weight; they can affect anyone. The current system fails many people who don’t receive the care they need because they don’t meet certain irrelevant criteria. More education is needed to understand that eating disorders are mental disorders, not physical ones.” said Spaeder.
