Jeff Gorcyca, a Kennett Square native, is one of the participants in the Girl Soup Collective, an independent collaboration of six storytellers creating their own content, writes Caroline Roosevelt for the Chester County Press

Gorcyca’s short film, Don’t Bother the Neighbors, was recently recognized with the Best Grindhouse Film award at Grindhouse Nights Horror Film Festival in New Jersey. It will be screened at additional theaters in Pennsylvania.

He is currently in post-production for his first feature-length film. Outen the Light is a quiet-horror film based on Appalachian witchcraft.

Working with the Girl Soup has helped Gorcyca broaden his movie-making skills.

“The way we work is that one of us wants to try something in film, they just need to say, ‘I’d like to direct something’ or ‘I’d like to write for our next project,’” he said. “It has really served us well because while we all have our strengths, we’re all ready to learn everything about film.”

The production company is already considering their next project.

“We are already planning our next feature which we’re hoping will shoot in Norway and it will be in the tone of Swiss Army Man, so it will be kind of like two friends in the woods,” said Gorcyca.
