The emergency shelter offered by the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County recently received a new generator thanks to a grant from the Chester County Department of Community Development, according to a staff report from The Daily Local News.

The shelter provides survivors of domestic violence with a supportive, communal place to stay. It meets their basic immediate needs, such as food, clothing, and beds, and offers advanced services, including counseling and support groups.

The county commissioners — Josh Maxwell, Marian Moskowitz, and Eric Roe — recently visited the DVCCC to commemorate the installation of the new generator.

The $265,000 purchase was funded through the Community Development Block Grant program authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.

“The very nature of the support that the DVCCC offers to victims and survivors of domestic violence means that services must always be available to provide refuge,” said the commissioners. “That’s why, in the event of a power outage, having a generator to back up its emergency shelter, transitional housing, and administrative offices – all located in a single, confidential location – is a necessity.”
