Looking for a new distillery to check out with friends or family? Philadelphia Magazine has you covered with three Chester County distilleries that are among the best to visit right now, write Bradford Pearson and Kae Lani Palmisano.

Bluebird Distilling in Phoenixville is an award-winning grain-to-glass distillery founded by owner Jared Adkins. Adkins started his successful business upon being unsatisfied in his previous career. He took classes, educated himself, and visited countless distilleries to fulfill his dream.

They make agave spirits, which is rare in the U.S., and curate Juniperus gin. A purchase recommendation is the straight Phoenixville whiskey, a mix of four-grain bourbon, straight rye, and American wheat whiskey.

A barn in Elverson has seen many lives, its newest one being home to Botanery Barn Distilling. Once a post-Civil War dairy barn that later earned the nickname “The Hippie Barn,” Botanery Barn cooks up unique gins in the space like Revivalist Spirits.

Each of their gins focuses on a different season, and a recommendation is The Equinox Expression. It has notes of meadow flowers and citrus.

The third distillery to add to your list is Pennsylvania Distilling in Malvern, a good and honest business that takes pride in being the masters of their own creations. Called “Keystone State in a glass,” The Dewey’s is the perfect recommendation for those who love small-batch bourbon and Pennsylvania-produced grains.
