After a Horrific Cycling Crash, Malvern Native Back Stronger Than Ever for Next Triathlon
After a horrible cycling accident, Malvern native Caroline Moyer has come back stronger than ever, proving herself as a champion triathlete, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.
In August 2020, Moyer’s foot caught in the front wheel of her brake, causing her to careen over the handlebars, break two ribs, separate the AC joint in her shoulder, and suffer a puncture wound in her back.
After the nasty crash, Moyer got back on a bike for the first time thirteen months later for a sprint triathlon. She was terrified for the 11.8-mile ride, but she knew she had to do it.
“As far as her potential, there are no limitations,” said her coach, Andrew Yoder.
Moyer’s previous triathlon performances are nothing short of amazing. Last year, she was the top female finished in the Ironman 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley triathlon. After finishing fifth at a similar event in Atlantic City, she qualified for the world event in Finland. Her next goal is to compete in a full Ironman.
“I don’t like being told I can’t do something or thinking I can’t do something,” she says. “I’m a very persistent person. I don’t want to be limited in life by fears. I didn’t want to be defined by my cycling accident forever and be afraid of the bike.”
