Casa Carmen, a winery located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, opened its new home base on a historic farm in West Grove on Wednesday, writes Paul Vigna for Penn Live.

This newest addition operates on a property once home to William Penn and his daughter, Letitia, according to the website.

This week marked Casa Carmen’s soft opening, with the grand opening cocktail party on April 26.

The original Casa Carmen was opened by Ecuador native brothers Enrique and Felipe Pallares in 2017.

In 2022, the brothers started looking for a new place to plant a vineyard and open a tasting room. Their search led them to a Brandywine Valley farm which is surrounded by some of the higher-profile wineries in Pennsylvania.

“The [new] property has tons of character,” said Enrique. “and a nice little slope on the side, which will be great for the vineyard.”

The brothers have already planted Vidal Blanc and Chardonel, one on the road vineyard and the other on the hill vineyard.

“We use these two mainly for our Pet-Nat and for our vermouth, and planted them with the goal of having vineyard practices that are as low intensity and as biodynamic as possible,” said Enrique.
