For brothers Zachary and James Wilson — co-owners, winemakers, and vineyard managers of Wayvine Winery & Vineyard in Nottingham — farming comes first, writes Kristen Schott for Philadelphia magazine.

“Our philosophy is to focus on the farming aspect — growing the grapes,” said Zachary.

It all started in 2010, when their father suggested turning their family dairy farm into a vineyard. So, the then-19-year-old Zachary decided to attend a grape-growing seminar.

He then ordered four acres of grapevines and made his first batch of wine.

Since then, it has taken the brothers a lot of trial, error, and experience to develop their wines. Today, the vineyard grows 13 red and white varieties that make 20 wines, blends, and a pét-nat line.

Most recently, the brothers have expanded their reach by opening Tulip Pasta + Wine Bar in Fishtown.
