Shea Roggio and J.H. “Alice” Chang have opened a new Korean friend chicken place in Phoenixville called Soko Bag.

Soko Bag, a new restaurant in Phoenixville that sells Korean fried chicken and beer, has an international history, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

When owners Shea Roggio and J.H. “Alice” Chang were laid off during the pandemic, they decided to fly to South Korea. After landing in Seoul around 4:30 AM, they stopped at a busy sports bar, ordering twice-fried Korean chicken and beer. From then on, a dream was born to open a similar restaurant in Roggio’s hometown of Phoenixville.

After nine months of renovations, Soko Bag was ready to open. The restaurant is a pub affiliate of the Philadelphia Union and features sports memorabilia. They even sell trading cards and offer giveaway cards for children.

Customers can order bagged snacks and sip on different beers and drinks while waiting for their order. Soko Bag offers twice-fried chicken, either half-pound for $12 or full-pound for $20. They feature plan chicken, with bamboo salt imported from Korea, or snow chicken, which is coated in a white cheddar powder. Available sauces include gochujang, kimchi aioli, bleu cheese, and buffalo.

While they’re only serving chicken right now, they have plans to add chicken cheesesteaks, salads, dumplings, and desserts to the menu.
