The West Chester University Cheerleading team won first place at the UCA National College Championship, as reported by Jennaphr Frederick for FOX29 Philadelphia.

The Golden Rams squad competed in the open division category against thirty-eight teams from across the country. The team has been improving each year, with their previous fifth-place and second-place finishes.

“It’s honestly a dream come true,” one of the senior cheerleaders said. “We have been working so hard for this as a team and I honestly knew it was going to happen. This team is something special, everyone knows when you’re a part of a club team, or any athletics, that you only get this kind of team once in a lifetime.”

Several of the girls on the team are local, hailing from Chichester, Garnet Valley, and other surrounding areas. Knowing that they were winning for their hometown made the win that much better.

“Trusting each other and working hard, they were very special,” said Cheer coach Jacqui Kline about what made this team different than the rest. “They had a vision, and they didn’t stop until that vision came true.”
