Downingtown-Based Cheerleading Squad a Reflection of ‘How Society Should Be’

The Downingtown Dominators

The Downingtown Dominators, a cheerleading squad led by West Chester University freshman Liz Schlosser, welcomes young people of all abilities, writes Ukee Washington for CBS Philly.

The team’s message is clear.

“Instead of having one team in our society of people with disabilities and one for kids without, we should all be on the same team, because that’s how I believe society should be,” said Schlosser.

Each person on the team with a disability has a partner without a disability. Together, they make up a team within a team. One of these pairs is Josh Homa and his coach, Paige Greenleaf.

“She can be a little tough coach sometimes,” Homa said, laughing.

“We always calm each other down,” said Greenleaf.

The club, which practices at Metzler’s Gymnastics in Downingtown, had just four members when it started, but now has 35. Participation is free to all.

Schlosser is now on a mission to secure new cheerleading outfits for the team through a crowdsourcing campaign.
