West Chester native and Jackass alum Bam Margera met his now fiancee Dannii Marie when he needed it the most, writes Leanne Aciz Stanton for Us Weekly.

The pro skateboarder was placed on a 5150 hold in June. The hold came after several years of trouble for the star of Viva La Bam, which included hospitalizations, arrests, and rehab stints.

After being released from hospital, Margera was in dire straits. He checked into Sunset Marquis hotel with no plans on checking out.

“I bought a bunch of drugs and I didn’t want to wake up,” he said.

Then he started to pray.

“I was like, ‘If I wake up from this amount of drugs and alcohol that I bought, then please show me the best eye candy in the world — and I need a tan pit bull,’” he said.

When he woke up alive the next morning, he went by the pool and heard Marie talking “about how she’s 44, Sicilian and Irish. When I met her, she said, ‘I have to go home and walk my dog’ — a tan pit bull.”

Marie helped him get sober and back in shape so he could continue skateboarding. She was by his side every step of the way, which led him to be able to have visitations with his five-year-old son.
