Phoenixville record store Forever Changes and The Colonial Theatre present the inaugural Intimate Concert in The Berry on Jan. 18. The smallest of the venue’s three auditoriums, The Berry is ideally suited for performances that bring together artists and audiences.

William Davis (saxophone and flute), Steven Ford (guitar), Bert Harris (bass), and Pio Voluntad (drums) are The Pio Quartet, who masterfully represent America’s only original art form through their compositions and the timeless works of jazz greats such as Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk.

The quartet has dazzled audiences for over ten years by celebrating the expressive music that grew from southern African-American roots and blossomed into a multifaceted genre embraced the world over.

“I’ve wanted to help diversify the music in Phoenixville for a long time. I had this idea of what could happen here, so I’m very excited for everything to finally fall into place,” said Shawn Cephas, owner of Forever Changes. “We’re going to have an event like this once a month, so the Pio Quartet is definitely something to look forward to. They’re a tribute to the jazz masters.”

The Pio Quartet is inspired by Bebop, Latin jazz, fusion, and world music; their performances beautifully express creativity and freedom. Experience them up close in the cozy comfort of The Berry.

Comedian Brandon Mitchell opens the show.
