Carly Catania, a 5-foot-9 guard at Villa Maria Academy, will continue her basketball career as a preferred walk-on at the University of New Hampshire, writes Owen McCue for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Choosing her college destination was not an easy process.

“It was definitely stressful,” said Catania. “I had to be patient, but I’m glad everything worked out.”

Catania said she caught the eye of the Comets during the summer, when she took the floor for the New Hampshire team and faced many Division I prospects in the Girls Under Armour Association circuit.

Even against some of the best players in the country, Catania more than held her own, which caused the Comets to reach out to her in early September.

She also had an option to play as a walk-on at Fairfield, but she chose New Hampshire where she will play under coach Kelsey Hogan due to “the culture between the players and the coaches.”

“The coaches really make an effort to get to know you and that’s what I really loved about it,” she said.
