Downingtown’s Meghan Huffman, a rising seventh grader at Villa Maria Academy, has blossomed into one of the nation’s top youth female figure skaters, writes Neil Geoghegan for the Daily Local News

At the age of 12, Huffman is so advanced that she skipped Intermediate Girls competitive level and went straight from Juvenile Girls to Novice Ladies. Even facing off against older and more experienced skaters has not slowed her down, and she is already thriving.

“Meghan loves everything with skating,” said her mom, Shannon Patton Huffman, who is a skating instructor. “She is very motivated, and would like to go to nationals one day.”

The preteen’s dedication and drive were on display during 2020 when she made huge strides even during the pandemic-related shutdown. She did her workouts at home and held Zoom meetings with her coaches. In fact, by this spring, she had begun landing a variety of triple jumps.

“It’s very impressive,” said her mother.

The young figure skating star now has big plans for the future.

“The first is go to nationals,” said Huffman. “My super long-term goal is to win a gold medal at the Olympics.”
