Downingtown native Cara Basso, a Villa Maria graduate and rising senior at Penn State, secured her second consecutive Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia Amateur Match Play Championship earlier this month.

In the championship match at the Cedarbrook Country Club in Blue Bell, Basso defeated Amy Kennedy without losing a hole.

Basso cruised to a 25-hole victory in the 36-hole contest. She also carded a personal-best 66 on the first 18 holes with five birdies and an eagle.

“My wedge play and putting really helped me accelerate through my matches all week long,” said Basso.

Winning the championship was special for Basso because of the rich history of the Women’s Golf Association of Philadelphia, the oldest women’s golf association in the nation.

“Playing in WGAP events is always special because of its rich history,” she said.
