2023 Chester County’s Color 5K Raises Over $100,000 For Fight Against Opioid, Heroin Abuse
The 2023 Chester County Color 5K managed to raise $110,000 for the county’s Community Outreach Prevention and Education program, according to a staff report from The Daily Local News.
The race was held in October at Exton Park and the Chester Valley Trail.
The check was presented to Kate Kinsley, Deputy Director of the County’s Department of Drug & Alcohol Services, by Commissioners Marian Moskowitz, Josh Maxwell, and Michelle Kichline during a commissioners’ public meeting.
COPE program helps in the fight against opioid and heroin addiction. It provides 24/7 support to overdose survivors and their loved ones in emergency rooms in hospitals nationwide. As part of the program, trained peer specialists establish a personal connection to survivors and encourage them to join treatment straight after being discharged from hospital.
The Color 5K was introduced as part of Kichline’s efforts to address the opioid and heroin epidemic.
“The Color 5K is one of the proudest accomplishments during my years as commissioner because the money raised has made a real difference in the lives of so many in our community,” she said.
