Hundreds of People Take Part in 7th Annual Chester County Color 5K to Combat Opioid, Heroin Crisis
Despite the rain, hundreds of people showed up and had fun at the seventh annual Chester County Color 5K on Sunday in Exton Park, according to a staff report from The Daily Local News.
People of all ages ran, walked, and cheered on participants at the event aimed at raising funds to fight the opioid and heroin crisis in the county.
The race was established by county Commissioner Michelle Kichline in 2016 and has since raised over $200,000 for the county’s Community Outreach Prevention and Education program. It is predicted that more than $110,000 will be added to that total this year.
The COPE program supports numerous aspects of substance use disorder, such as providing warm hand-off to treatment for individuals suffering from the disease of addiction.
“Since it began, the COPE team has successfully engaged with 98 percent of overdose survivors in our emergency rooms, and through those engagements, seven out of 10 people who experienced an overdose have been personally helped with treatment,” said Kichline before the event.
