Curtis Mason leaves his service from Penn Township at the end of 2023 after 26 years.

Curtis Mason, Sr., a longtime Supervisor and local businessman, will conclude his service in Penn Township at the end of 2023, according to a staff report from the Chester County Press.

Mason served the people of Penn Township with dedication for 26 years, both as Township Supervisor and Board of Supervisors Chairman.

An Avon Grove High School graduate, Mason grew up in West Grove and Penn Township. A prolific businessman, he developed or purchased the Crack-n-Crab, Hilltop Bar and Restaurant, Oxford Beverage, and Penn Brew Station over the years.

His official tenure in the township started on Jan. 1, 1997, when he filled an open seat on the Penn Township Planning Commission. Two months later, he was appointed to fill an unexpired supervisor term. While he faced some challenges, he earned re-election six times.

His influence is most seen in the expansion of the 55-and-over communities to become a dedicated zone served by some public utilities which ended up supporting Avon Grove School District without adding students to it.

“I have been blessed with great boards and staff and we have been able to make all that happen,” said Mason.
