Local Travelers Have More Direct Flying Options After Avelo Airlines Adds More Nonstop Flights
Local travelers now have even more direct flying options after Avelo Airlines took flight last week at the Greater Philadelphia / Delaware Valley’s Wilmington Airport with nonstop flights to Puerto Rico, according to a staff report from Delaware Black.
The airline offers exclusive nonstop service to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The airline is targeting over 250,000 Puerto Ricans who reside in the Greater Philadelphia / Delaware Valley region, which is the second-largest Puerto Rican population in the United States.
“As someone of Puerto Rican descent, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, I am absolutely ecstatic at Avelo’s announcement of the addition of Puerto Rico as a destination!” said Wilmington Councilwoman Maria Cabrera.
This is Avelo’s first destination outside the continental United States. The airline is also the first to offer nonstop flights outside of the continental United States from Wilmington Airport. The route is flown twice a week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
