Avelo Airlines has added two new destinations to the Wilmington Airport.

Less than a year after its debut at the nearby Wilmington Airport, Avelo Airlines plans to add two new routes for Chester County travelers and others to enjoy, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

With the addition of San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) in Florida, it brings the total amount of nonstop flight destinations to 15. The Puerto Rico route could be especially popular due to the Delaware Valley having the second-largest Puerto Rican community in the country.

One-way fares to San Juan will start at $99, meanwhile it will be $49 for Sarasota.

“And with winter right around the corner, San Juan and Sarasota are the latest examples of how Avelo is inspiring travel across the region with a fresh mix of popular destinations to choose from,” said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy.

Avelo’s investment in Wilmington is banking on the effort to make it cheaper and more available to travelers than the Philadelphia International Airport. Since its opening in February, Avelo has flown over 125,000 passengers from the airport.
