If you’ve been waiting for the arrival of Avelo Airlines, then you’re not the only one excited for discounted commercial flights flying out from the Delaware Airport, writes Brandon Holveck for Delaware Online.

Starting Feb. 1, tickets ranging from $40 to above $170 can get you to a few different destinations in Florida. One of the closest airports to Philadelphia, commercial flights at Delaware Airport in Wilmington have been paused since June 2022 after Frontier Airlines left.

35 staff members will be based at the airport. They are making final training preparations and bookings are “doing well thus far,” according to Avelo spokesperson Courtney Goff. The company is hopeful that seeing planes in the sky will increase bookings.

To start, one Boeing 737 plane will fly to the following airports: Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Tampa, and West Palm Beach on select days.

“We believe that this market can work and work really well,” said Avelo CEO Andrew Levy in October. “And we believe that the level of commitment that we’re making in this market is different than what’s been done before. We hope to be more relevant from day one.”
