West Chester Food Cupboard Opens Newly Expanded Space with Larger Shopping Area, Waiting Room
The West Chester Food Cupboard has opened an expanded part of its facility at 431 S. Bolmar Street to better deal with food insecurity in the area, according to a staff report from The Daily Local News.
The new space provides a large shopping area together with a comfortable waiting room for those who use the Food Cupboard Express Pantry. Thanks to this expansion, the West Chester Food Cupboard can now also store more products, which means that it is able to achieve significant savings by purchasing food items in larger quantities.
The one-time costs of the expansion were all covered by grants and donations, including $50,000 in funding received from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. The funding was arranged through the office of Senator Carolyn Comitta.
“The West Chester Food Cupboard is a great example of community cooperation and community action to address community needs,” said Comitta. “Hunger is a solvable problem and Food Cupboard volunteers are working tirelessly to solve it by expanding their facility and launching innovative programs like the Express Pantry.”
