Nineteen-year-old Aiden Nichols, a West Goshen resident, spearheaded this year’s drive for West Chester Food Cupboard that ended up collecting over a ton of food and personal items for its clients, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

With the help of his grandmother Elaine Nichols, the West Chester University Psychology student presented 2,055 pounds of food and goods to volunteers at the nonprofit.

Nichols, a brain cancer survivor, used social media, flyers, and word of mouth to collect food for those in need. He has contributed to the drive for the past five years.

“This makes you feel good,” he said. “You do it for other people who are less fortunate. Because of the cancer, I wanted to give back to the community that helped me.”

The food cupboard is run and operated by 200 volunteers. It serves more than 1,000 families per month.

“To have someone like Aiden with such a great commitment to the community is amazing and makes a huge difference to those who need food,” said Rob Necarsulmer, president of the West Chester Food Cupboard.
