How West Chester-Raised Soccer Coach Mark Fetrow Rose from Nittany Lion to Drexel Dragon
West Chester native Mark Fetrow is finally living his teenage dream to be a head coach for a soccer team, writes Matt Ryan for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Now Fetrow is doing just that at Drexel University. His career began at Penn State as a four-year starter for the Nittany Lions. Fetrow was then selected by the Vancouver Whitecaps, then returned to Penn State for his first coaching job as a graduate assistant.
He then migrated to his hometown to be an assistant coach at West Chester University. His next (and most recent) gig was in 2016 at Villanova, also as an assistant coach. It was 28 days from the season opener when Fetrow first heard of the position at Drexel.
Although he was hesitant at first with the turnaround time being too fast, he was urged by the head coach to take the job. As head coach at Drexel, he kicked off with a 2-0 win over Saint Joseph’s, and now the Dragons are 5-1-2.
At 33 years old, Fetrow is finally living his soccer coaching dream.
