Kennett Square-native Nick Ward's journey to the minor leagues is one of determination that led him to the Reading Fighting Phils.

Kennett Square native and West Chester University graduate Nick Ward’s journey to the minor leagues is one of determination that led him to the Reading Fighting Phils. Ward’s early days were marked by his admiration for Chase Utley, writes Richie Scott for Minor League Baseball News.

His college baseball career began at Virginia Commonwealth University, but his heart was always set on West Chester, so he transferred.

“Once I decided that I wanted to transfer, I knew where I wanted to go,” Ward remarked. His choice to play for West Chester University was, in his words, “a pretty easy decision.”

And it proved to be the right one. Under his leadership, WCU clinched the NCAA Division-II National Championship.

But the highlight of his career came when he joined the Phillies Organization with High A Jersey Shore and eventually moved up to the Double-A Team of the Reading Fighting Phils.

His achievements on the field have set many career highs, but his ultimate dream remains.

“That has been my dream since I was five years old,” Ward shared, hoping to one day play in the major leagues with the Phillies or another team.
