The fall equinox brought an end to an “unprecedented” Chester County summer filled with joy and festivals, but also a major loss, writes Jen Samuel for The Daily Local News

One of the popular events was the celebration of the Marquis de Lafayette at Thornbury Farm

“The event provided interesting history and demonstrations of his heroic role in the American Revolution and his impact on our nation’s history,” said Susan Hamley, executive director of Chester County Tourism

The county also hosted the 139th USA Archery Target Nationals and U.S. Open in Willistown Township

“It was a wonderful weekend full of exciting competition and sportsmanship,” said Travis Geiser, sports and events manager at Chester County Tourism.

The annual Memorial Day parade, the Floral Flash event, and a September WonderWomen In Business networking event in Penn Township are only a few of the other major summer happenings in the county.

However, a sad moment occurred last week, when the oldest white oak tree in Pennsylvania, which started growing on a hilltop in West Marlborough Township before William Penn’s arrival here, fell. Yet, its legacy continues to live on in a community rich with heritage, beauty, and nature.
