Kids from the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District got down and sandy with professional sand sculptor Chuck Feld at the Chadds Ford Historical Society, writes Rich Schwartzman for ChaddsFordLive.

The Historical Society recently hosted its Hands on History Camp which allowed kids the chance to have fun and learn at the same time with activities like hiking, wood carving, baking in a beehive oven, and, of course, making sand castles.

Now, everyone has made a sandcastle at least once at the beach, but few have rarely had the opportunity to learn under the guidance of a professional. Feld, who lives in Birmingham Township, gave campers instructions on how to build the perfect sandcastle and set them off in groups to accomplish their tasks.

Each sandcastle was given creative freedom, but they had to have “three turrets, five windows, two doors, and a grand entrance,” as well as a name. When they were all finished with their masterpieces, some of the names included Sandy Paradise, Modern Sandcastle, and Magical Castle.
