Victoria Wyeth, the only grandchild of the late Andrew Wyeth of Chadds Ford, overcame adversity to blaze her own path as a photographer and art historian, writes Michael Bradley for Main Line Today.

Wyeth is the daughter of Andrew’s oldest son, Nicholas Wyeth, and his wife, Jane. In addition to being an artist, she is also a psychologist who worked at Norristown State Hospital for years.

One of her favorite things is introducing the work of her family to anyone. She loves educating people about her grandfather; his father, N.C. Wyeth (the famous illustrator); and her uncle Jamie. She introduces them to other people on her own terms rather than as someone whose life is tied completely to a family legacy.

“When you come from a famous family, you can change who you are or be true to yourself,” she said. “I choose the latter.”

A cancer survivor, Wyeth has kept her life busy. But despite her openness and willingness to talk about her family, she is surprisingly self-deprecating about her own work.

“I’m pretty shy about my photography,” she said.
