The YMCA of Greater Brandywine will welcome pickleball players from all around the nation later this month to the Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn for the 2023 Association of Pickleball Players Philadelphia Open, according to a staff report from The Daily Local News

The USA Pickleball Sanctioned Match Medal Plus Tournament will take place between Aug. 23 and 27.

In addition to players, the local YMCA will also welcome many volunteers to its 54-acre campus. They will help direct players and spectators.

“Many of the volunteers helping at the event are local, passionate pickleball players here at the Y as well as the greater Chester County pickleball community,” said Laura Milazzo Mackiewicz, Director of Volunteer Engagement for YGBW.

The tournament is taking place the same month as National Pickleball Day, which was celebrated countrywide on Aug. 8.

To celebrate the day, the YMCA will offer two free workshops at the YMCA Pickleball Center in Downingtown on Aug. 12.

“We’re excited to introduce new players to the sport of pickleball at our upcoming workshops,” said Shawn Ganow, Director of Pickleball at the YMCA Pickleball Center.
