While many consider pickleball a sport primarily for the older set, the growing number of young faces at Fisher Park in Phoenixville shows that the game is for people of all ages, writes Courtney Diener-Stokes for the Daily Times

Zak Miller, 27, used to play mostly badminton, but now he often opts for pickleball instead.

“If I want to get my exercise in and steps, and casual fun and play, I would lean toward pickleball,” he said. “If I’m looking for a more intense workout, I choose badminton.”

He plays with a Meetup group at Fisher Park two to three days a week. He plays year-round unless snow prevents it.

“What I love about the sport is how accessible it is for anyone to pick up,” he said. “Anyone from any age group can hit and get a good rally on really easily.”

Miller is also a Professional Pickleball Registry-certified instructor with Smashville, which has been offering pickleball learning clinics for about two years, including at Fisher Park.

“The goal is to promote and show basic skills of pickleball and some intermediate skills, as well as chops and slices,” said Miller.
