Terence Farrell — who grew up on the campus of Lincoln University, where his parents both taught — is a former Chester County Commissioner and the President of For Real Solutions, a consulting firm that opens doors for clients interested in doing business at the county, municipal, or state level.

Farrell, who earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., credits Alan Novak — the former chair of the Republican State Committee of Pennsylvania, as well as the Chester County Republican Party — with having the biggest impact on his career.

Farrell’s proudest professional achievement was being part of Chester County’s executive leadership for 12 years (2008-2020).

“Helping guide the county during a critical time and winning numerous awards and accolades as one of the best counties and county governments in the Commonwealth and in the nation,” he said.

Farrell also shared his perspective on what makes a successful leader.

“Attitude determines altitude,” he said. “If you think you can, or you think you can’t, you are right. Wanting to put in the work to be a successful leader is key.”

Of the 12 Principles of the Scout Law — Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent — Trustworthy resonates the most with Farrell.

“Trustworthy is first for a reason,” he said. “It is important in all my relationships — and it inspires others to invest their time, energy, and support in you … and your career. One of the greatest compliments I can receive is for those who have supported my moving to the next level of my career to say their support was justified. I met and exceeded their expectations in my next new role.”

The Chester County Council, Boy Scouts of America will honor Farrell and the 11 other BSA VISTA Leadership Megastars at an awards reception on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at its new Program, Activity, and Resource Campus (PARC) in Exton. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Kristin Conran at kristin.conran@scouting.org.
