The baseball field at Cloud Park in West Goshen has been named in honor of Ray Halvorsen, a longtime township public works department director and township supervisor and East Side Little League coach, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News

During the July 3 dedication ceremony, a plaque was revealed above the batting cage behind home plate.

“He loved baseball, and he loved West Goshen Township,” said Halvorsen’s son Matt to around 100 attendees.

Halvorsen died at 71 on July 3, 2022.

Tinamarie Smith, a friend and township supervisor, praised Halvorsen as a role model to young boys for the 17 years that he coached Little League baseball.

“Ray left a good legacy and monumental impact on the baseball players’ lives as a coach,” she said.

She reminded the attendees how Halvorsen helped save Cloud Park from development and kept it as a place that everybody can enjoy.

Originally, the board of supervisors dedicated West Goshen Community Park in Halvorsen’s name. However, they realized that it would be much more fitting to dedicate the ballfield to the long-time supervisor.
