The shuttered Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville will soon transform into a facility for veterans. It will be purchased by Penn Medicine from Tower Health in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

At the 64-acre campus, Penn Medicine plans for Brandywine Hospital to provide inpatient, outpatient, mental health, and long-term care services to veterans. Currently, the hospital has 1,200 employees and with the transformation, Penn Medicine CEO Kevin Mahoney says that they will be preserved, if not relocated to other hospitals.

In addition to adding healthcare services to veterans, Penn Medicine will also be re-establishing Brandywine’s emergency services.

“What we are doing now is starting the planning process,” said Kevin Mahoney. “It’s all about access, access, access. That is what we are trying to build. … We are going to make this happen. I can feel it in every part of my body.”
