Brandywine Hospital closed its doors for good at 11:59 PM on Jan. 31, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The hospital’s owner, financially struggling Tower Health, closed Jennersville Hospital in West Grove at the end of December.

Tower Health had explored a potential sale or a merger of its assets for about a year before deciding mid-2021 it would remain independent and enter a clinical alliance with Penn Medicine. The health system, however, announced its plans to close the two Chester County hospitals last month, after talks with Canyon Atlantic, a Texas-based hospital turnaround firm, fell through.

Canyon Atlantic has petitioned the court to reinstate the deal it had arranged with Tower Health and make sure that Brandywine Hospital stayed open.

However, the closing proceeded as scheduled.

According to Tower Health, the closure of Brandywine Hospital “is proceeding smoothly in accordance with the regulations and with utmost concern for the safety of patients and support of staff.”
