A Kennett Square coffee shop starts with a love story. To this day, Philter, which is the word for “potion, or charm meant to cause the person taking it to fall in love with a specific person” aims to inspire patrons to fall in love with coffee, community, or even a future partner, details a staff report from Sprudge.

Founder Chris Thompson met his wife, Heather, while he was working as a barista at a coffee shop in Philly. Heather was a teacher who would come in there often to grade papers. Chris had a dream and a plan to one day open a coffee shop of his own.

In 2013, his dreams became a reality, and Philter was born. The coffee establishment works with Ceremony Coffee Roasters to offer seasonal specialty coffees. The menu includes a curated selection of  hand-crafted brew for caffeine junkies around Chester County.

“We get plenty of coffee people who make the trip to see us, and I love that. It’s really cool, though, when someone just happens in expecting the typical coffee shop and is excited to find us doing things the right way,” said Thompson.
