Liz Fiola and Jamie Yakscoe, of Phoenixville, met while working together at Eagleville Hospital — Liz was a psychiatric nurse and Jamie worked as a mental health technician, writes Anndee Hochman for The Philadelphia Inquirer

They enjoyed talking about politics and philosophy.

“I really liked her brain,” said Jamie.

However, Liz was given pause by their age difference. She was 30 at the time and Jamie was 23.

“It was odd and strange to be connected with someone so much younger than me,” said Liz.

Jamie proposed to Liz during one of their many chess games. She was overjoyed, and her acceptance was a bright moment in an otherwise heartbreaking period. Jamie’s sister was dying from an intestinal disorder and he was her primary caregiver.

The couple tied the knot in January 2020 in a do-it-yourself Jamaican wedding. In March 2022, Liz was pregnant. Baby Hank was born on Dec. 4.

Since Hank joined them, Jamie realized his coworker was right when they told him that parenthood turns a “cosmic key” in your soul, and unlocks a new set of priorities.

“It’s a real thing, what happens to your brain when you have a kid – it’s all about them,” he said.
