Malvern Prep’s Andrew Phillips has fulfilled his wish to continue his basketball career at a Division I school by accepting a basketball scholarship to Lafayette College, writes Joseph Santoliquito for the City of Basketball Love

The Chester Springs native already had a preferred walk-on opportunity at the University of Delaware as well as a Division II scholarship to Thomas Jefferson University, but he ended up choosing a Patriot League school with a high-academic standard as a wing-three.

The gifted athlete led the Friars last season in scoring at 18.7 points per game and rebounding with 7.4 rebounds per game. He also had three assists per game with 53 percent precision shooting from the field and 37 percent from the three-point range.

“When I was offered, I just right jumped on it,” said Phillips. “It was an emotional moment when I committed.”

Phillips, the youngest of four, lost his father in May 2020, when he passed away due to COVID-19 at 53. He also lost his paternal grandfather within the same time frame.
