A healthcare watchdog group ranked hospitals throughout Pennsylvania on their efforts to protect patient safety, and two Chester County hospitals made the list.

The watchdog graded hospitals nationwide on an academic scale. Forty-five hospitals throughout the Keystone State earned an “A” in patient safety measures.

Chester County Hospital aced the category for its ability to keep infections at bay, minimal problems with surgery, and only having a small percentage of harmful events and injuries.

The hospital also earned a top score due to its practices to prevent errors such as those related to medication, communication, and discharge. The staff ranked highly for good communication and responsiveness.

Paoli Hospital also earned an A, although it scored less than average in controlling infections, such as MRSA and IUDs.

Phoenixville Hospital earned a ‘C’. However, Phoenixville scored well in practices to prevent errors such as safe medication administration, processing medicine orders, and communication about patient medication and discharge.
