Eclectic Restaurant Makes Grand Entrance to Spice Up Downtown Wayne
A long-time-coming Blue Elephant has made its grand entrance in downtown Wayne, with a menu that offers an unlikely medley of Japanese and Italian, with some Thai dishes added into the mix, writes Caroline O’Halloran for the Savvy Main Line.
The space is bright, airy, and opulent, with many gorgeous details, such as the elephant-head front-door handles, the distinctive chandeliers, and bonsai-style boxwood trees. It is a true Asian/Art Deco showstopper.
“What if ‘Mad Men’ were set in today’s Tokyo? said Pearl Somboonsong Murphy, operations director of Win Signature Restaurants, which is owned by her parents. “That was my vision.”
In addition to several popular restaurants in the region, Win Signature Restaurants also owns the first Blue Elephant outpost in Pottstown.
The aim of opening the Wayne location of Blue Elephant was to add diversity to the Wayne dining scene.
“You walk down North Wayne Avenue and you wonder where’s the Korean place, where’s the Indian, where’s the Vietnamese?” said Somboonsong Murphy. “Wayne is filled with great restaurants but most serve American food like burgers, pizza, and pasta. We wanted to add diversity, an Asian element.”
