Northern Virginia native Stephanie Kuniholm — who spent the first 10 years of her life in the Washington, D.C., area, before her family moved to Exton — is the Director of External Relations at Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens in Devon.

“I focus on finding funding to support the garden and on telling the stories of the garden to a wide audience,” she said. “Jenkins is completely supported by our community, and I oversee all fundraising efforts, including membership, corporate giving, grants, and special events. I also oversee all marketing and communications efforts. I love that my job sits at the intersection of horticulture, art, science, history, and community connection. No two days are alike, and I am always learning something new.”

Kuniholm, who graduated from Delaware County Christian School, earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Eastern University and a master’s degree in Public Horticulture from a joint program between Longwood Gardens and the University of Delaware. She credits her graduate school advisor, Dr. Brian Trader, who is now the CEO of Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, Va., with having the biggest impact on her career.

“With his trademark wisdom and warmth, he encouraged me to dream big, work hard, and have a little fun along the way,” Kuniholm said.

Her proudest professional achievement is supporting a garden that is open every single day of the year with free admission.

“Everyone in our community should have the benefit of spending time in beautiful green spaces,” Kuniholm said. “It’s an honor to work behind the scenes to make sure this incredible place remains free and open to visitors every day of the year.”

Her favorite Chester County restaurant is Root Down Brewing Company in Phoenixville.

Kuniholm and the rest of the 2023 Class of VISTA Millennial Superstars will be honored at the Awards Reception & Celebration on Thursday, May 18 at Penn State Great Valley.
