A fashion-industry alum and managing director who runs an office in Wayne has some worldly wisdom. J. Douglas Moran learned about the importance of consistency and strong relationships to attract new buyers during his time as national sales manager for Liz Claiborne, writes R.J. Shook for Forbes.

“In the fashion industry there are six markets a year and all day long you are simply presenting and hoping that the buyer will buy a lot of your products,” said Moran.

Now, Moran’s 7-person team manages over $1 billion in client assets. Over the years, Moran was able to attain a high retention rate due to his firm, Moran Toth’s, ‘laser focus’ on serving their top clients.

Their services include financial planning, wealth management, estate planning, employee benefit, and pension advice.

For Moran, being personal is important. He makes clients feel like family by using a free bill pay service and also remembering little details, like pet names or their favorite coffee drink.

“I invited one of my clients to bring their dog to have a play date with my dog. It was a big hit,” he said. “This business is all about developing connections and building relationships. I never forget that.”
