This past February, a mix of Coatesville city and area residents, business owners, and mission-based investors completed a 6-week real estate development course as part of Jumpstart Coatesville. Now, 1/3 of the graduates are ready to take on their first rehabilitation project in the city.  

Jumpstart Coatesville is a unique community development program that will train mentor and help provide funding to aspiring real estate developers in the City of Coatesville. Jumpstart believes that you can do well by doing good and focuses on removing neighborhood blight through scattered site rehabilitation, creating a mix of affordable, work force, and market rate housing while avoiding gentrification through steady growth and keeping wealth local.  

Jumpstart creates opportunities for local residents to invest in the revitalization of their own neighborhood. This will then make safer neighborhoods and raise property values responsibly through blight reduction. Jumpstart will also help first time investors become more attractive to lenders which will help to increase diversity and change the face of real estate development.  

Upon completion of the program, Jumpstart Coatesville graduates will have the blueprint, resources, and network that they need to launch their first or next real estate development project in the city.  

In 2018, the entire City of Coatesville was declared an opportunity zone and since then hundreds of millions of dollars have flooded the city for revitalization. It’s crucial that Coatesville residents and business owners are able to build wealth along side the city’s rebirth.
