A good Martini is one of the classics of the cocktail world, but to make a great one you need the right gin, writes Brian Freedman for Food & Wine

There are countless ways to construct a Martini despite it being comprised of just two ingredients. There are all the variations of the drink itself, such as dirty, Gibson, espresso, and many more. Then there is the choice of vermouth and how much of it should be used, should it be shaken or stirred, and how big a glass to achieve the best result, among many other choices.

But the most important one is always which gin to use.

Food & Wine tested dozens of gins to find 22 that pair best with vermouth to make a fantastic Martini. The Revivalist from Brandywine Branch Distillers in Elverson is among the most distinguished.

The Revivalist includes a wide range of seasonally inspired gins. The Summertide Expression Botanical Gin incorporates peppermint, meadowsweet, and jasmine along with other botanicals. The resulting martini is as refreshing and bright as it is comforting.
