One of Pennsylvania’s Oldest Wineries Is in Chester County
Fifty-five years ago, the passage of the Limited Winery Act allowed for the production and sale of wine in Pennsylvania, writes Paul Vigna for PennLive.
The law that was officially named Act 272 created an industry that exceeds 300 wineries today, according to the Pennsylvania Wine Association website.
One of the oldest among them is Chaddsford Winery, located in the heart of Brandywine Valley in Chadds Ford.
The winery was established in 1982 — it celebrated its 40th anniversary with a month-long celebration last year — and it is often regarded as a pioneer in the Pennsylvania wine industry. It is also one of the largest by volume as it produces roughly 30,000 cases annually.
Chaddsford Winery focuses on making approachable wines that are food friendly and reflect the unique Mid-Atlantic Uplands microclimate. It offers a diverse portfolio of dry whites, reds, and sweet wines.
There are many events available throughout the year, from a daily Wine Tasting or even a flight to take in special events and festivals.
