Help Build Hope

Help Build Hope is a unique program within the parent company CrossRoads Missions. The Help Build Hope program works with organizations like Habitat to provide walls for affordable housing projects.

Their mantra is, “We build frame walls by building partnerships, building relationships, building community, and building homes, bringing the event to your organization’s parking lot.”

The walls provided by Help Build Hope allow organization here at Habitat for Humanity to reduce costs and complete the construction of Habitat homes quicker for families in need. This unique partnership between Habitat for Humanity and Help Build Hope fosters a loving community by providing first-time homeownership opportunities quickly and efficiently.

“Help Build Hope fits the bill for a safe, family friendly way for people gather to serve,” said Rev. Dorry Newcomer of Lima United Methodist Church. “But some were skeptical, especially at our first build. People with construction experience questioned the project leader, wondering why we didn’t use nail guns and get the walls built much more quickly. But our goal was not speed. Our goal was building community.”

Partnership Accomplishments

Habitat’s partnership with Help Build Hope will contribute to constructing 40 homes at the site in West Grove. The construction of Habitat homes takes place in phases, and within each phase, a set of 5 homes is constructed. Help Build Hope will provide lumber for the walls of phase 5 West Grove homes.

This event took place the weekend of Sept. 23 to 25, 2022. By Friday, Sept. 23, all lumber materials were delivered to the Lima United Methodist Church parking lot to prepare for the lumber cut process. On the afternoon of Friday, the lumber was cut, stacked, and marked by volunteers to prepare for the build on Saturday.

On Saturday, volunteers constructed the first floor of five homes in the church parking lot. On Sunday, a church service was held at Lima United Methodist Church to sign and dedicate the walls of these new homes. After worship, the final walls were loaded onto the Help Build Hope truck and taken to West Grove, where volunteers will use them to build a set of townhouses for people in the region who need safe and secure housing.

“I believe that the absolutely amazing thing that happened in that parking lot on Saturday is one of the truest expressions of love, embodied by Christ’s example,” said volunteer Greg Corner. “That this community of people, having the freedom to choose anything that day, chose to dedicate their time, their money, their talents, and their love to giving some yet unknown neighbors the gift of a safe place to live. What a beautiful demonstration of the law of Christ.”

Providing and dedicating these walls to new homeowners is a beautiful process made possible by Habitat’s partnership with Help Build Hope and the valiant efforts of all volunteers involved.
