West Chester’s Gina Castanzo, better known under her stage name Gina Zo, and her band Velvet Rouge are ready to impress with their new album and the accompanying tour, writes A.D. Amorosi for the Philadelphia Weekly

Castanzo shot to fame at 17, when she appeared on NBC’s The Voice reality competition program. While she did not win the competition, she took full advantage of her newfound popularity and soon signed with an independent label, Raw Life Records. After publishing two albums — My Weakness and Free Your Soul — she formed Velvet Rouge.

“Some of my favorite artists in the world were in bands, I look at Garbage, Fleetwood Mac, Florence and The Machine, The Marias… when I saw what could be done as a UNIT, I knew the power of a band,” said 24-year-old Castanzo. “The goal was to have a family and a unit.”

The band has three fresh singles set to be released in August and the following two months. Afterward, Velvet Rouge is planning to release their new album and start a national tour.
