Penn State Brandywine is one of 19 Penn State Commonwealth Campuses across the state. It is located on 112 acres at 25 Yearsley Mill Road in Media.  It offers four-year baccalaureate degree programs in 14 fields of study and two associate degree programs.

The following positions at Penn State Brandywine are available:

Strategic Communications Specialist

Penn State Brandywine is seeking a Strategic Communications Specialist (Marketing Communications Specialist 2 or 3) for its Strategic Communications Department.

The Strategic Communications Specialist supports and manages activities to increase awareness of Penn State Brandywine’s programs and achievements and will work with faculty, staff, students, and vendors to complete projects.

An appreciation for and dedication to working with diverse audiences is a must as this position supports and manages communications with key internal and external stakeholders, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and the community at large.

The Specialist will:

  • Create content for the campus website, news releases, social media, electronic newsletters and other communications vehicles
  • Take photographs; and create videos
  • The Specialist will attend and support various campus events and may serve on campus committees
  • The Specialist will also assist with management of the campus website, monitoring and reporting analytics for various platforms, and create marketing and communications materials

The successful candidate will be an excellent writer, editor, researcher and interviewer who can develop strong working relationships across the campus.

The ability to meet deadlines, produce accurate work and manage multiple projects is essential. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level two.

Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher-level jobs.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field preferred. Previous experience with photography; video creation and editing; and the Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

Assistant Director of Student Equity and Inclusion Programming

Penn State Brandywine is accepting applications for a position that focuses on student diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives.

This position will be an integral part of the Student Affairs staff working with a multidisciplinary group, collaborating across campus and the community to develop and implement an inclusive calendar of cultural, social, recreational, and educational student programming.

This position may include a sign-on bonus, relocation reimbursement, and the opportunity to work a flexible schedule, but candidates must be able to commute to Penn State Brandywine and work on campus.

Regular nights and weekends are required for this position.

The position requires:

  • A Master’s Degree or higher in an education or social science-related discipline plus at least one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3.
  • Additional education and experience are required for higher-level positions.
  • Candidates who have experience providing service to diverse populations, such as but not limited to, underrepresented, historically marginalized, international, and/or LGBTQ populations strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing best practices and leading diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging student engagement initiatives in a higher education setting
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee populations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory
  • Established experience in student activities budgeting, planning, implementation, and assessment
  • Proven record advising student leaders and student staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable community

The assistant director will:

  • Coordinate cultural, social, recreational, and educational student programs as well as programs that support the acclimation and transition of students from current and historically underrepresented and marginalized groups
  • Design, coordinate, and implement diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) educational initiatives
  • Serve as an advisor to student organizations especially those with a focus on DEIB
  • Supervise student staff
  • Serve on campus committees and complete other duties as assigned.

Residential Education Specialist 1

The Residence Life Office is looking for a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team. The Residence Life Office is committed to the development of a safe and inclusive living-learning community that fosters academic, social, cultural, and personal growth.

The Coordinator is a vital part of the team in helping to continue the vision and mission of the department.

They are responsible to an Area Coordinator or Assistant Director for supervising a staff of up to 16 Resident Assistants, as well as overseeing the daily activities of buildings housing up to 400 students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising Resident Assistants
  • Conducting regular individual and group supervision meetings
  • Evaluating Resident Assistant performance
  • Providing support and training for Resident Assistants
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a residence education program for the area
  • Assist with the development and implementation of campus-wide initiatives
  • Advise student groups in the area
  • Make referrals to University agencies when appropriate
  • Encourage student involvement in residential and University engagement opportunities
  • Promote area government
  • Advocate for students by communicating their concerns and issues to the appropriate agency
  • Advise individual students with academic, career, and personal concerns
  • Interpret and enforce University and residence hall policies and procedures
  • Mediate conflicts between and among students
  • Assist with the daily operation and organization of the area and the area office
  • Handle requests for room changes and contract releases
  • Assist in promoting the safety and security of area residents
  • Assist in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with Housing and Food Services, Safety and Security, New Student Programs, etc
  • Provide on-call duty coverage
  • Demonstrate a commitment to students and the quality of their life in the residence hall environment
  • Encourage Resident Assistants to become well-acquainted with students in the area
  • Assist the Resident Assistants in developing and promoting a positive living environment
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and social justice issues
  • Plan and implement programs in conjunction with Resident Assistants and students
  • Demonstrate a commitment to staff and student retention and recruitment efforts, particularly as they impact members of underrepresented groups
  • Participate in committees and task force groups
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of professional staff
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals for the area and the residence hall system Performs other duties as assigned

The position may work in a traditional residence hall setting or in a diverse apartment setting with graduate students, international students, undergraduate students, and families.

Summer responsibilities include either New Student Orientation, Housing Operations, Conferences, Assignments, Desk Operations, or Summer School.

New Student Orientation and Conferences staff also report to an Assistant Director of Housing/senior coordinator for assisting with Summer Conferences and Institutes.

A Master’s degree or higher in Student Personnel/Counseling or related area is preferred. The applicant should possess a thorough understanding of the role and purpose of residence hall living as it applies to student development. This is a 12-month live-in regular staff position.
