High-End Retailer from Center City Finds a Suburban Home in Wayne
The high-end retailer Boyds is opening a permanent suburban outpost in Wayne, two years after opening a temporary store in Ardmore’s Suburban Square, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The Center City institution will move into 11,000 square feet at 201 West Lancaster Avenue this fall. The space had previously served as Urban Outfitters’ flagship Anthropologie store for more than 25 years.
“We had a lot of interest in the building,” said Larry Steinberg, a retail broker with Colliers who represented the landlord. “A lot of developers wanted to come and buy the building but this family is not selling.”
Boyds leadership was prompted to open a suburban location in part due to the pandemic, which sent office workers from Center City to their suburban homes full time for two years. The Ardmore location was an experiment that led to the decision to open a permanent store in Wayne.
“We love the location,” said Boyds president Kent Gushner. “We think Wayne is very accessible to the client base we have in the Main Line, new clients, and opens us up to new clients further west than Ardmore.”
