Coatesville Native to Be Inducted into College Basketball Hall of Fame
Coatesville native Richard “Rip” Hamilton, who starred collegiately at the University of Connecticut from 1996-99, will be inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame this year, writes Isabella DiAmore for the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Hamilton, a 1996 graduate of Coatesville High School, where he was a McDonald’s All-American, played 14 seasons in the NBA for the Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, and Chicago Bulls. A three-time All-Star with the Pistons, he helped them reach six straight Eastern Conference finals. In 2004, they captured the NBA title.
Hamilton’s 2,036 points in three years at UConn make him the program’s second-leading scorer of all time.
He was recognized as the Most Outstanding Player of the 1999 NCAA Final Four after the Huskies beat Duke in the national championship game.
The induction ceremony will be held at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Mo., where the Hall of Fame is located. The date has yet to be determined.
