Chester County residents are the healthiest in Pennsylvania, according to a new study by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

To determine the ranking, the study took into account 90 health-influencing factors, including housing, education, jobs, and quality healthcare access.

Chester County placed first in the Keystone State in both of the report’s major measures: health outcomes and health factors.

The health outcomes category calculates the length of life and quality of life factors, while the health factors category looks at health and unhealthy behaviors.

In health outcomes, Chester County has 14 percent of residents who are in poor or fair health, which is under the state’s 18 percent average. The county also has a high life expectancy of 81.2 years, as compared to Pennsylvania’s 78 years.

In health behaviors, 14 percent of the county’s residents are adult smokers, compared to 18 percent in Pennsylvania, and 29 percent are obese, compared to 33 percent in the state.

Meanwhile, six percent of residents are uninsured, compared to seven percent in Pennsylvania.
